Are there Really Individual Replicas of Us Somewhere in a Parallel Universe?

Latest Hot DEALS

Is there more than one universe? Some people believe so. Some people also believe that there’s a replica of each and every one of us that can be found somewhere in a parallel universe. But what evidence is there to support this theory? The universe is massive; probably bigger than anything else you can imagine, with lots of photons and neutrons packed together to form millions of galaxies with trillions of stars within them. It may also seem as though we’re in the center of a finite universe, but that’s not the case either. It appears this way to us because we cannot see anything more than a certain distance away because the actual universe itself has only existed this way for a certain amount of time.

But, who’s to say there isn’t more universe beyond that? Chances are there’s plenty more after that. The universe is fairly flat spatially with a volume much greater than the observable universe we can see, and therefore probably very similar to that of our own. Just before the time of the Big Bang, the universe was filled with energy and found itself in a state of inherence where it caused the universe to expand exponentially, and distances get further away as time goes on. The universe stopped expanding eventually and took from an inflationary state into the Big Bang.

Some things about inflation that you may want to know are that it’s like a quantum field that spreads over time. So the more time goes on, the more it expands. Also, regions where expansion ends, give rise to a Big Bang and a universe similar to ours, but those areas where it doesn’t end will continue to inflate. Because of how expansion works no two regions will ever meet where inflation ends. Those regions where inflation doesn’t end keep expanding between the others, pushing them farther apart. That’s some of the most important points we do know about inflation. What we don’t know is how long this inflationary state lasted for before the Big Bang occurred, or if the regions where inflation has ended are the same. If so, are these the parallel universes that we long to see where another us is living an entirely different life?

It’s a pretty cool idea to imagine that there is another universe or two, or ten, out there for every different outcome of an event we could imagine. But, for that to even be possible, the inflationary state must have occurred for an infinite amount of time and not just the 13.8 billion years that our universe has been in existence. But, whether that is true or not, it’s not about dreaming of other universes and ‘what may be’ lives out there, it’s all about making the most of the one you have. If we do only get one shot at it, we should make sure it’s a good one.
